How long will it take?
To complete this qualification learners are expected to undertake approximately 61 hours of learning. The SIA stipulates a minimum of 44 contact hours (6-days) if self-study is undertaken.

Qualification Overview
This qualification has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA) for Door Supervision. It is based on the relevant SIA Specifications for Learning and Qualifications and provides the learner with the necessary skills and knowledge to apply for an SIA licence and work as a Door Supervisor within the Private Security Industry. This is a six-day course, with each part assessed as outlined below. It is generally very achievable with a couple of hours home reading per night. You will be required to take a short English test beforehand to be sure you can take the course, please contact us to arrange this.
Entry Guidance
It is required that SIA Door Supervisor Training Course attendees have a minimum Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent. The Door Supervisor qualification is aimed at learners aged 18 and over due to age restrictions on applying for a licence. Attendance on all six days is compulsory to complete the course and gain this Award.
Learners will also need to show that they hold a valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate. The training centre must confirm that the learner has this qualification PRIOR to attending the SIA Door Supervisor course. The First Aid certificate must also be in date for at least 12 months.
We run First Aid courses weekly and generally the week before the SIA Door Supervisor course, so if you require the First Aid, please ensure to enrol on this course also when booking your SIA course.
Qualification Structure
This qualification is made up of four mandatory units, the details of which are included at the end of this document. Learners must successfully complete the assessments for the units to achieve the qualification.
How the qualification is assessed
This qualification is assessed through 3 multiple-choice examinations and a practical & written test.
Unit 1: Working in the Private Security Industry
This unit is assessed by a 72 question multiple-choice examination the duration of which is one hour and 10 minutes. To be successful, learners must achieve a score of at least 70%.
Unit 2: Working as a Door Supervisor
This unit is assessed by a 50 question multiple-choice examination the duration of which is one hour and 15 minutes. To be successful, learners must achieve a score of at least 70%.
Unit 3: Conflict Management for the Private Security Industry
This unit is assessed by a 20 question multiple-choice examination the duration of which is 30 minutes. To be successful, learners must achieve a score of at least 70%.
In addition, there will be an externally set, internally marked practical scenario assessment which will last 15 minutes. This is a 100% pass requirement.
Unit 4: Physical Intervention Skills for the Private Security Industry
This unit is assessed in two parts. Part one is a written test that is assessed by a 30 question multiple-choice examination, the duration of which is 45 minutes.
Part two is a practical test and learners must perform every technique and require 100% pass by the instructor. There will also be a practical assessment of 15 minutes recorded.
The SIA have stipulated a maximum ratio of 12:1 learner to tutor for unit 4.To be successful, learners must achieve a score of at least 70%.
ID Requirements
We are required to ensure that each learner’s photograph and formal identification documents are checked and recorded before they are allowed to sit the examination/assessment. Only a formal passport-style photo is acceptable, and the documents required are listed separately please look at the ID REQUIREMENTS. Please note ONLY these documents are acceptable and the original MUST be produced, copies cannot be accepted. If you are not sure how you can comply with this, please contact us to discuss this.

Candidates must produce the following forms of identification:
TWO identity documents from GROUP A. At least one document must show the candidate’s current address and at least one document must show their date of birth OR
ONE identity document from GROUP A list and TWO documents from GROUP B. At least one document must show the candidate’s current address and at least one document must show their date of birth.
Candidates for the SIA Door Supervisor and CCTV course need to produce ID as above.
For those candidates on our Personal Licence and First Aid courses you only need to produce 1 item of ID from Group A.
Group A documents
- If you are a UK passport holder, your passport number entered on the application form. You do not need to submit the actual passport.
- Signed valid passport of any other nationality.
- Driving licence photocard if it was issued by the DVLA in Great Britain. We will not accept the photocard on its own if it was issued by the DVA in Northern Ireland.
- Driving licence photocard and its paper counterpart issued by the DVA in Northern Ireland.
- UK original birth certificate issued within 12 months of birth (a copy is not acceptable)
- UK biometric residence permit card
Group B documents
Documents that confirm your identity and your address
- Valid UK firearms licence with photo.
- Current UK driving licence – paper version (not the paper counterpart to a photocard).
- P45 statement of income for tax purposes on leaving a job issued in the last 12 months.
- P60 annual statement of income for tax purposes issued in the last 12 months.
- Bank or building society statement issued to your current address, less than three months old. You can use more than one statement as long as each is issued by a different bank or building society.
- Mortgage statement issued in the last 12 months.
- Utility bill (gas, electric, telephone, water, satellite, cable) issued to your current address within the last three months. You can only submit one utility bill in support of your application.
- Pension, endowment, or ISA statement issued in the last 12 months.
- Letter from H.M. Revenue & Customs, Department of Work and Pensions, employment service, or local authority issued within the last three months. You can submit more than one letter as long as each is issued by a different Government department or a different local authority.
- A credit card statement sent to your current address within the last three months. You can submit more than one statement as long as each is issued by a different issuer.
- Council Tax statement issued in the last 12 months.
Documents that confirm your identity
- Valid EU photo ID card.
- Driving licence photocard (without a paper counterpart) issued by the DVA in Northern Ireland.
- Marriage certificate or Civil Partnership certificate, with translation if not in English.
- UK birth certificate issued more than 12 months after date of birth, but not a photocopy.
- Non-UK birth certificate, with translation if not in English.
- UK adoption certificate
