December – Week 2 – Resolutions – Header

Make 2024 Your Best Year Yet

As the New Year swiftly approaches, it’s time to start thinking about what we want to achieve in the new year. Now, if you’re happy with your lot in life, that’s great! Or maybe you feel like you have enough on your plate already; that’s fine. But for the rest of us, we have a fresh opportunity to set goals that inspire us and strive for personal growth and fulfilment.

The Purpose of New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions are more than just a yearly ritual. They are a reflection of our desire for self-improvement and progress. They offer an opportunity to pause, evaluate our lives, and decide what we want to change or achieve.

Making Resolutions That Stick

    1. Be Specific and Realistic: Vague resolutions are harder to achieve. Be specific about what you want to accomplish and set realistic goals.
    2. Break It Down: Large goals can be overwhelming. Break them down into smaller, manageable steps.
    3. Focus on Habits: Consider resolutions that focus on forming new habits rather than just achieving one-time goals.
    4. Write Them Down: Writing down your resolutions can solidify them in your mind and serve as a reminder throughout the year.
    5. Share Your Goals: Sharing your resolutions with friends or family can create a support system and hold you accountable.
    6. Review and Adjust: Regularly review your progress. Don’t be afraid to adjust your goals as needed.

Change takes time, be kind to yourself

Realistic Resolutions
  • Health and Fitness: This could be as specific as running a 5k, practising yoga three times a week, or incorporating more vegetables into your diet.
  • Personal Development: Learn a new skill, start a daily journaling habit, or read at least one book a month.
  • Mental Health: Focus on mindfulness practices, reducing screen time, or making time for activities that bring joy.
    • Social and Relationships: Make more time for family and friends, or volunteer in your community.
    • Professional Growth: Aim to enhance your professional skills, seek mentorship, or strive for a work-life balance.
    • Environmental Impact: Consider resolutions that reduce your carbon footprint, like recycling more or reducing plastic use.

BREAK IT DOWN

Resolutions are simply goals you set for yourself. Admittedly these can be set any time of the year but the new year is a chance to start from a fresh slate. But setting some massive goal like ‘Run a marathon’ or ‘Loose 3 stone’ and only aiming for that is dooming yourself for failure. Start with smaller goals like ‘Run for 10 minutes’ or ‘Lose 5 pounds’ and build up to the bigger goal.
