WHO defines self-care as “the ability of individuals, families and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and to cope with illness and disability with or without the support of a healthcare provider”.
Self-care means that you are simply being mindful of your own needs, so you are better able to support the people you care about. When you take care of yourself and are not stressed, you are better able to meet the needs of others.
Self-care comes in a variety of forms. It does not require an elaborate plan; self-care can be as simple as taking a deep breath when you notice you are becoming stressed.
What Self-Care is not
Self-care is not about adding another thing to your list it is meant to help not make you feel even more overwhelmed.
Self-care is not about an emergency response plan; it is more about creating behaviours or health habits that you can do to make sure that you do not get to that point.
Self-care is NOT SELFISH!!!! It is about looking after yourself so that you can give your best and be the best you that you can be for your friends, family and the world.
